Kakashi Hatake is one of the most pivotal and popular characters in the legendary anime Naruto. Many mysteries revolve around the Copy Ninja, his Sharingan eyes being two of them.

Sharingan eyes Kakashi was made possible thanks to Obito Uchiha. Be it Kakashi’s left eye or both eyes, the complex antagonist made both happen.

Keep reading to find out how and when Obito gave Kakashi his Sharingan eyes, what sort of powers they offer him, how he uses them, and more.

Where Did Kakashi’s Sharingan Eye Come From?

Kakashi’s Sharingan eye came from Obito Uchiha.

Kakashi Hatake, Obito Uchiha, and Rin Nohara were squadmates of Minato’s ninja team. During one of their childhood missions in episode 120 of Naruto: Shippuden, Stone Village Ninja kidnapped Rin.

Obito wanted to go rescue her but Kakashi opposed him, saying they shouldn’t abandon the mission, so Obito went alone.

After a while, it became clear to Kakashi that turning his back on his teammates was wrong, so he decided to go after them.

Upon reaching Obito, one of the Stone Village ninjas caused the cave around them to come down. A boulder was going to crush Kakashi, but Obito pushed him out of the way to save his life.

With half of his body trapped under the boulder and being on the verge of death, Obito asked Rin to transplant his remaining Sharingan eye into Kakashi’s empty left eye socket, where he had lost an eye even younger.

Obito ripped out his Sharingan eye and presented it to Kakashi as a gift for achieving the Jonin rank.

How Did Kakashi Get Two Sharingan Eyes?

In episode 473 of Naruto: Shippuden, Kakashi gets two Sharingan eyes during the Fourth Great Ninja War.

To save the lives of Naruto and Sasuke, Obito gave up his own, but he managed to transfer his chakra into Kakashi using Kamui. Thanks to the new life of Obito’s chakra, Kakashi was granted two Sharingan eyes.

Why Can’t Kakashi Control His Sharingan Eye?

Kakashi isn’t an Uchiha and his Sharingan eye originally belonged to Obito, so he can’t control when to turn off the Sharingan.

Another theory says that because Obito brutally ripped off the eye, he permanently damaged some of its nerves and prevented Kakashi from fully controlling it.

How Did Kakashi Lose His Sharingan Eye?

Kakashi lost his Sharingan eye during the Fourth Great Ninja War. It was stolen by Madara Uchiha.

Why Does Kakashi Cover His Sharingan Eye?

Kakashi covers his Sharingan eye because he can’t turn it off.

The Sharingan eye is always activated, and if he leaves it exposed, it’ll drain him completely. Covering it restricts its usage and keeps his chakra minimally affected.

When Kakashi uncovers his left eye, he unleashes the full power of the Sharingan.
