There are now many ways to detoxify our bodies – and colon cleansing is one of them. Also known as colonic irrigation, the method of cleansing one’s colon has grown in popularity, especially in the United States. This is usually done by using a colon cleanse supplement like teas, capsules, and enzymes.

Using a colon cleanse supplement or a natural colon cleanse is usually safe, but if this is combined with fasting or certain medical conditions, there can be some side effects. 

The common side effects are nausea, dizziness, dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, constipation or diarrhea, and even cramps. Consult with your doctor before starting any colon cleanse. Everyone’s lifestyles and health conditions are different. The risk of side effects increases if you have gastrointestinal disorders like diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease, severe hemorrhoids, heart or kidney disease, or any recent surgeries done.

Meanwhile, many benefits also await people who will safely use a colon cleanse supplement. These include regulated bowel movements, fewer stomach pains, improved immune system, and possibly even weight loss. The risk for colon cancer is also reduced. 

Combine using a colon cleanse supplement with a healthy diet and regular exercise to improve your overall health. Any supplement’s positive effects will be heightened when you are eating clean whole foods, sleeping 7 – 9 hours a day, and getting at least an hour of exercise each week.
